Deer Park History
The Heath family purchased approximately forty acres of land in 1837 and named their estate Deer Park. Prior to the Heath family purchasing the land, the First Nations people referred to the land as “Mushquoteh” which translates to a meadow in the wood where deer come to feed.
During the 1850’s Deer Park has grown substantially and included several country
villas, a cemetery, school, race track and a hotel. The hotel was located at the intersection of Yonge & St. Clair. Hotel guests enjoyed feeding the deer that often visited the hotel grounds.
