East York Neighbourhood History

East York originally consisted of mostly British immigrants who were interested in owning their own private homes. East York included many smaller detached homes, each of which had their own private gardens at the front and rear of the homes. In the 1940’s many war veterans returned to Canada after serving in World War II and chose East York to call home. The Government specifically built homes for the returning veterans in the area.

East York Neighbourhood Today

Today, East York still consists mostly of small older bungalows but the neighbourhood is starting to see more of these homes being torn down and new larger two storey homes being built in their place. The neighbourhood had consisted mostly of seniors for a long period of time but is now a popular community for young families looking to transition from condo living to living in a home.

East York real estate consists mostly of older smaller bungalows and two storey homes as well as a relatively small number of apartment buildings. It is now common to see the older bungalows that were mainly built between the 1890’s and 1960’s being replaced with new, larger two storey custom homes which often include contemporary interiors. East York is a great neighbourhood for individuals who are looking to make a transition from condo living to living in a home.
