The historical Fort York has been situated at the south west end of the downtown core of Toronto since 1793. The Battle of York took place in 1813 and was fought against the Americans. Fort York was destroyed during this battle but was rebuilt in 1814. In 1923, Fort York was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada.
The railway began operating just north of Fort York in the 1850s which brought a large amount of industry to the area. Fort York was used by the Canadian Military up until 1934 when it opened to the public as a historic museum.
