Robert Home Smith and his company Home Smith and Company started marketing the Kingsway in 1912 after acquiring it from the Church of England in 1908. Unfortunately, Smith’s plans to develop the area were put on hold by World War I. Smith was forced to wait until 1924 once the ware was over and there were more transportation routes built in the area making it more accessible.
Today, the Kingsway is a beautiful family friendly neighbourhood with sizeable lots, maple and oak tree-lined streets and large stunning Old English style homes. The area has several great parks and exceptional schools and is a popular neighbourhood among professionals.
The majority of the homes in the Kingsway were built between 1924-1947. Many of them are large Old English style homes which include solid wood doors, leaded glass windows and stone exteriors. The Kingsway is one of Toronto’s most highly sought after neighbourhoods.
